Statement of intent:

To support and meet the individual needs of asylum seekers and refugees who reside within the Sunderland area.

The Group aim to:

• alleviate the social isolation of asylum seekers and refugees.

• Promote and develop friendship, understanding and cultural value.

• Offer an informal, non-religious, non political advice and guidance service to support individual need.

• Signpost clients to services i.e. Legal advice, housing, education, health and social care, Red Cross and employment training and projects.

• To offer counselling an advice.

• Provide a platform in order to inform clients of cultural issues and projects.

• Support the integration process.

• Offer equality of opportunity to all clients.

• Provide an opportunity for members of the community to volunteer and befriend clients.

• Offer a social environment where clients can participate in sports and social activities with friends and community members.

NERS operates a Drop In facility at St Mary's Parish Centre in Sunderland on each Wednesday from 1 – 4pm. We offer refreshments, sporting activities and opportunities to access other supporting services and organisations.
