Funding

YIP Sunderland is a fun project for young people funded by the Big Lottery Fund from April 2006 -2009, for three years and works closely with CIP (Community Integration Project.) YIP encourages networking with other community groups and strategic partners.

Mission

Developing the confidence, leadership skills and talents of young refugees, working in partnership with host community projects. Creating fun developmental and creative projects that assist towards the integration of young refugees aged 11-30 so that a sense of belonging is created to the community of young people, here in the North East

Kartal(Eagle) FC; TIE(Together Integration Experience)

Rakib's Sport Relief Group

Bringing Youth Together ( Riya's Group)

Amin's Sport Relief Group .

What We Do?

  1. Forming young person's community groups - that encourage integration
  2. Refugee Awareness Raising - to host community Universities, schools, youth projects and statutory bodies
  3. Promoting volunteering - coaching young people through their volunteering roles
  4. Integration activities, events and residentials

Overall Outcome?

                                            Improved integration for young refugees and asylum seekers aged 11-30

Cloud 9 Youth Summit!

  Recently Jay, the YIP worker, won a competition to name the regional youth summit for young entrepreneurs - Cloud9!

Some young people from NERS, the Princes Trust and Unity Organisation will be going down to learn about business and project skills and meet celebs such as Tre Azam from the apprentice! click here to register

 

                                                                                  Sport Relief

Recently Rakib Hussain,(18) a young man from Burma, won a sport relief award of through UnLtd and has been assembling his group of cool young people - mix of boys girls, students, refugees and asylum seekers from many different backgrounds( mackems and Geordies too!) to break down conflict in the community. So far around 10 people attend and the group have had a planning meeting at Basha restaurant Newcastle and went bowling at XL in Sunderland . Future activities planned! Riya Khurana(18) also won an award to break down conflict in the community and organised a multi-activity residential at High Force Training Centre with young people from many backgrounds and nationalities. Riya is planning another residential for the warmer months with the EDDY project at Whitton Park, where she will be coordinating some work with the EDDY project's young peer mentors.

Amin's Omar (22) from Sudan won and award to create a one off integration Canoeing day between members of YIP and A690 Youth Initiative. He is currently facilitating this with the A690 project.


Past Events/Projects

1-3rd August ’07: TIE residential at YMCA Lakeside, Cumbria TIE Group Residential Report

TIE Residential 2009 at Kielder Forest at Hawkhirst Adventure Centre. We visited bird of pray centre, did Team building activities, tried food from different countries and made new friends and built strong relationships with one another.

January ’08, National Glass Centre, Sunderland - Youth Integration Conference YIP Press Release_conference

2008 - a young person's Food Forum was facilitated to sample other worldy foods and generate inter faith, gender dialogue between young person's communities A residential took place at The Underwood Workshop in Northumberland where the group made pizzas out of clay ovens and carved bowls and cutlery on a green woodworking weekend.

16th July '08: People's Wall in Hendon,We designed a wall to tell what would be the future of the Hendon and East End?

8th March'08: Women's day: we draw international peace logo "Love for All Hatred for None"t

Sunderland Rainbow Cricket - with help from the People's Fund Maria Butt set up a multi-cultural women's cricket group. Maria is now undergoing her Cricket L2 coaching awards.
